The figures were from one piece of burlwood.  They’re trying to escape and are finding it difficult. This, my second bronze work, was influenced by Rodin’s “Gates of Hell,” which has fascinated me since childhood. The patina here looks like stone. Experimenting with patinas and watching the colors and textures materialize is one of the most intriguing stages of bronze sculpture. It breathes life into the piece.
